U.S. Army National Guard SPC Chris Walters (Veteran)

"SPC Walters was injured in two separate IED explosions while serving in Afghanistan. He received an Army Commendation medal for personally rescuing a young boy from an active minefield."

Injury: Service-connected disabilities include posttraumatic stress disorder, neck and ankle injuries, and chronic headaches.

Operations: Desert Storm (2 Tours), Noble Eagle (Homeland Security), Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom

Last Military Assignment: 1128th/76th Infantry Brigade (Afghanistan) Indiana National Guard

Immediate Family: Wife and four children.

Personal Interests: "Watching football and trying to play with my kids."

Current Situation:
After being discharged from the Army National Guard in August 2005, Chris has struggled to support his family while wrestling with both his injuries and his claims for service-connected disability compensation from the Veterans Administration. Based on his most recent medical evaluations he expects to receive a 100% disability rating within 4 - 6 months. Until then, Chris will continue to experience temporary financial difficulties. Rebuild Hope has helped Chris create a 12-month budget and intends to help them pay for their basic monthly living expenses until his VA disability income begins - hopefully no later than October 2010.
