Welcome to the California Collaborative Community Calendar

Members of the Collaborative have traditionally relied heavily on one-time "chain-email" communications to announce upcoming events or extend invitations to other members, veterans, caregivers and families who might benefit. The Calendar can either complement or replace these emails. The Calendar provides a central online location where members can easily post and review events at any time that's convenient for them.

The Calendar is a place to announce events that will be of interest to a significant number of members of the Collaborative. The posting of an event should generally be viewed as extending an invitation. While most events are expected to take place in California, events outside California are welcomed if members other than the poster are expected to attend. The Calendar is NOT a place to post non-events, like news of any kind.

Examples of appropriate events:

• Meetings
• Special Events for veterans, caregivers, families
• Conferences
• Retreats
• Special speaker events
• Opportunities for others to meet you when you visit a place or location
• Training and educational programs and sessions

All events have at least three elements - a what (title), when (date & time), and where (location). The Plancast service automatically generates a google map using the event address, simplifying the task of finding directions. A brief description of the event, contact information and a link to additional information can be included using the "comments" field associated with an event. The link can reference a web page or a downloadable PDF document.

The Calendar is intended for use by all the members of the California Statewide Collaborative and the East Bay Collaborative.

Currently Rebuild Hope must post all Calendar events. (Note: This is a limitation of the existing Plancast service. The ability to distribute event postings to others will be added in the future.)

To submit an event for the calendar send a message to Dana Hendrickson at dana@rebuildhope.org and include:

• A Title (the "What")
• The date and time (the "When")
• The place and address (the "Where")
• A brief description
• Contact information
• Either a web link or a PDF file

Generally, an event will be posted to the Calendar within 24 hours of the receipt of this information.

You signal your intention to attend an event by selecting the "count me in" button next to an event title. This intention will be displayed on the Calendar (and in your own personal PLANCAST profile). You can delete your intention at any time.

When you subscribe to the Calendar, all events will also appear in your personal calendar (note: this appears whenever you enter your personal and password time). You will also receive a brief email notice when new events are added to the Calendar. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Members can invite others using email or facebook. Please direct them to visit this page (http://rebuildhope.org/collaborative_calendar.php) first so they understand how the Calendar works.

The Collaborative Calendar is administered by Dana Hendrickson - dana@rebuildhope.org and 650-321-4930.

Administrator responsibilities include:

• Helping members learn how to use the Calendar
• Managing the integrity of the Calendar re: entry quality and suitability
• Collecting user feedback
• Ensuring that service problems are addressed.

Lot's of cool things:

• Create your own plans
• Invite friends to view them and join you in your activities
• Automatically notify others (who elect this option) about your new plans
• Let them acknowledge their intentions to join you
• Let everyone who views your calendar see who intends to attend specific events
• Subscribe to their plans
• Tell them you intend to participate in their plans

 

Note: You can create different free personal accounts for "business" and "non-business" purposes if you wish to maintain separate calendars.
