"After six and a half years of service and two tours in Afghanistan as an infantry squad leader, Danny was discharged from the Army in mid-2005. During his service he earned a number of awards including a Purple Heart. While his post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has created difficulties for his entire family, he has committed himself to improving their lives and is currently enrolled as a full-time student at Syracuse University."
| Home: | Syracuse, New York |
| Injury Incident: | Danny suffers from a traumatic brain injury (TBI), a post traumatic stress disorder, hearing loss and several other physical injuries caused by exposure to repeated mortar attacks and shrapnel wounds. |
| Operation: | Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) |
| Military Assignment: | Army 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) - Ft. Drum, New York |
| Immediate Family: | Wife and two young children |
| Personal Interests: | Spending time with my family outdoors, fishing, hiking, camping etc. Playing my guitar and listening to music. Quality time with my wife is important though limited due to my full-time status as a student. |
| Current Situation: | While Danny pursues bachelors's and master's degrees in Clinical Social Work with the hope of a brighter future his family's weak financial condition has put them in an untenable position. They have no savings and if Danny were to work part-time his disability pay would be reduced. And childcare and travel expenses would largely offset any earnings his wife could make in a minimum wage job. Like many veterans Danny has been reluctant to ask others for help. So his application to Rebuild Hope represents a courageous and important first step. While his family has many unmet needs, their highest priority is repairing and cleaning their kitchen, bathroom and children's bedrooms which were flooded and are now contaminated by mold. |
