| Current Situation: | In 2005 Jolene was unexpectedly injured during emergency abdominal surgery performed at a Navy hospital. Soon after she received an honorable discharge along with a one-time, disability severance package. Unfortunately, Jolene's family financial condition has deteriorated severely since then. While responsible for the well-being of a son, daughter and herself, she continues to suffer from a 50% physical disability, has exhausted her savings and now faces the potential loss of her home and sole vehicle. Rebuild Hope is just one of several members of the California Statewide Collaborative who are pitching in to help Jolene, providing counsel, advocacy and financial support. While Jolene deals with her immediate financial problems she continues to take important steps to improve her families situation. She is pursuing a bachelors degree in information systems security with a goal of graduating in 2009 and she is expanding her own home-based costume business. Jolene also wants to help other military families deal with the kinds of problems she has experienced and is pursuing a position as VA service officer. |
