Who you can help - the Sargent Family

U.S. Marine Corps Master Sgt. Kenneth ("Kenny") Sargent

"In August 2004 after a seventeen year career in the Marines and during his second duty in Iraq, Kenny was seriously injured when his vehicle was ambushed near Najaf. A ricocheting bullet struck him below the right eye, exited near his left ear and damaged the front of his brain. He barely survived and his vision, hearing and memory were greatly impaired."

Home: Oceanside, California
Injury: Kenny has undergone extensive treatment and rehabilitation for traumatic brain injury, post traumatic stress disorder and neourological and circulatory problems.
Operation: Iraqi Freedom
Military Assignment: TBD
Immediate Family: Wife, two daughters and Kenny's mother.
Personal Interests:Kenny likes watching basketball, woodworking, and working out.
Current Situation:

After spending two months in intensive care at Bethesda Naval Hospital and a month at the Palo Alto VA Polytrauma Unit Kenny now lives with his family at Camp Pendleton. During Kenny's treatment and rehabilitation his wife Tonia became a tireless caregiver and advocate for Kenny and other wounded veterans while raising two daughters through high school. Tonia has actively supported mulitple military nonprofits and championed efforts like the private fund-raising for the Palo Alto Fisher House.

With Kenny discharged in May 2008 the Sargent family expects to move offbase in November 2008 when Kenny's veterans disability benefits should begin. Even then, the family will continue to experience financial difficulties as they transition to non-military life. For example, they are in the process of seeking financial assistance for the purchase of a home.

Feedback From the Sargents

"My family would like to say thanks to everyone for their gifts. Each month your funds are used to pay expensive gas for our vehicle. I have had to travel cross town to take my husband Kenny to the V.A. for health care and other appointments 5 days a week for the last 2 months and still have more trips ahead. It has been a relief to know this monthly gift would cover these travels.

When our support through Rebuild Hope ends I hope our donors will continue to support Rebuild Hope and adopt another family. Your monthly gift makes a big difference in our daily lives. God Bless You." - Tonia (& Kenny).

Kenny Joined Rebuild Hope in June 2008.

Special Note: Ken and his family are trying to purchase a home with the help of the New Song Community Church's Sargent Fund. If you would like to help, view this document.
