Who you can help - the Hardin Family

U.S. Army Specialist Kevin Hardin (Active)

"Kevin, a frontline Army medic, suffered extensive permanent physical injuries when an enemy rocket intended for a tank missed and hit his vehicle. He is lucky to have survived and will continue to be treated at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center for an unknown time. His parents continue to struggle with the unreimbursed costs of visiting their son despite receiving help from several other military support non-profits."

Home: Jupiter, Florida
Injury Incident: Kevin's Humvee was struck by an anti-tank rocket in Samarra, Iraq on September 30, 2007. The explosion shattered his firearm and both hands (the main artery was hit), peppered his upper body with shrapnel and penetrated his skull with shrapnel which cannot re removed.
Operation: Iraqi Freedom
Military Unit: 3rd Battalion, 8th Calvary Regiment, 3D Brigade Combat Team, 1st Calvary Division, Ft, Hood, TX
Immediate Family: Mother, father and three brothers
Personal Interests:Kevin enjoys beach activities and attending old car shows (he loves classic cars).
Current Situation: After approximately 23 surgeries (and more to go), Kevin remains an outpatient at the Malone House near Walter Reed. His dad lost his job after he had to stay with his son for six months as his caregiver. When his parents travel between Florida and Washington, DC to visit Kevin, they have to incur their expenses on their own. They are extremely thankful their son is alive. Kevin’s mother works fulltime, although his Dad remains unemployed, with no promise of employment in the near future. At this time, their future remains uncertain.
