Letter From Our President

Welcome to Rebuild Hope! Rebuild Hope is a young and still small not-for-profit organization with big aspirations - to engage thousands of individual Americans in a collective effort to improve the lives of current and former members of the U.S. military who have suffered life-altering injuries since the start of the second war in Iraq. That is a tall order. But one we are confident our citizens can handle. So how did we get started? The Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital "scandal" and a gnawing sense that most Americans feel little direct impact from the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan initially led me to explore existing opportunities to volunteer at the nearby Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto, California in the spring of 2007. Soon after, I discovered the successful Kiva.org micro finance website and realized that a similar service model - with some significant changes - could dramatically transform how individual Americans could help our seriously injured soldiers and their care-giving families. While working with leaders in the military, Palo Alto VA and dozens of military support organizations our team was formed, we created plans and then our initial Rebuild Hope website was announced on June 10, 2008. We invite you to explore our website, join our community as either a donor or beneficiary and help us "spread-the-word" about Rebuild Hope to your friends, family and associates. If you have wondered how you could personally and positively impact the lives of these military families, there is now an an easy way - through Rebuild Hope. We always welcome your ideas on how to improve our services and community. Warmest regards, Dana Hendrickson |
