Injury: Service-connected disabilities include severe posttraumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, back injury, shoulder injury, sleep disorder, adjustment disorder, gastroenteritis, migraines
Operations: Iraqi Freedom
Last Military Assignment: 1st Cavalry Division, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1-5 Cavalry Regiment(Ft. Hood, Texas)
Immediate Family: Wife and very young son.
Personal Interests: "Playing football, raising my son and just living a normal life."
Current Situation: Steven was medically discharged from the Army in August 2009 and returned to California with his family after completing special medical treatments at Ft. Hood in Texas. In February 2010, he filed a claim with the Veterans Administration (VA) for merited service-connected disability compensation and expects to receive a disability rating of at least 70% in about 6 months. Although Steven's wife works, the family's pared down living costs greatly exceed her income. Rebuild Hope has helped this family create a 12-month budget and now intends to help them pay for their basic monthly living expenses until Steven's VA income starts.
